Just took a look at Discogs's 300 most expensive items. Rough conclusions:

25% are fun, people putting items for huge prices, when they are not rare or sold by others for like 1-30€.
25% are items which were expensive new and people try to sell them for the same price or a little bit more expensive (Merzbox and other industrial LP boxes for example).
25% are really limited editions of industrial/IDM stuff no one gives a shit about: you often just see 1 for sale for a huge price (wonder why it does not sell!!), and then 20 people who have it and 3 that want it, typicaly limited to 333 copies in 7 colors with 84 different inserts edition of an IDM pseudo artist no one cares.
25% are really rarities, altough many totally inflated prices.

Maybe that is exactly what this guy did... a white label test pressing, easy to copy!
