PCP Label History
« Reply #3 on: July 17, 2009, 12:32:33 AM »
Hi,

I recently made a lot of updates at PCP (the label) on Discogs, which may be relevant for planet-core.com as well.
The initiator was finding that no PCP release actually has the LP suffix printed to their catalog numbers (etchings/matrix numbers are a different story), except for FFM Trax 1. It's been a way to differentiate the dually used cat-numbers, but these are not the real ones, at least not found printed.
What happened is that AMV, the first distributor of PCP and DE 2001 from 1990 on, closed down in '91, after which they decided to relaunch PCP. Following that the catalog number system was reworked like this:

The previous
PCP 009 (Alien Christ - Of Suns And Moons) was declared to be PCP 002
PCP 013 (RPO - 1991) to PCP 003
PCP 015 (FBI - The Futureworld E.P.) to PCP 004
(none of the above printed on the according release though)
PCP 001 and 006 (the Mescas) just stayed, FFM Trax 1 seems to be refered to as PCP LP/CD 1.
The rest of the AMV back catalogue was apparently abandoned, the double label releases just refered to by their DE 2001 numbers.
That way they are found listed at FFM Trax booklets.

From there on they continued it through again, PCP 005 (The Mover - Frontal Sickness Part 1) and PCP LP/CD 2 (FFM Trax 2) being the next releases after AMV in late '91, followed in '92 by 007, 008 et al.
An idea would be to split the PCP discography in AMV and post-AMV ones, similar to the current LP and non-LP branches.
By that there'd be a better arrangement available than the chronological disorder at Discogs.

Cheers,
D.
