planet phuture - what speed?
« on: February 01, 2009, 04:20:02 PM »
something i've wondered about...
at what speed is the planet phuture 12" (super special 3) supposed to be played at?
i got at on an old tape and it's at 33 1/3 there, but in other places i've heard it played at 45...
to me, 33 makes much more sense cuz it fits to the slower style of the mover... plus at 45 the part where the unrhytmic drums begin sounds way too fast then...

hehe  :)
most confusing for me was ffm shadow orchestra - killing zoo... where one side is 33 and the other 45 and its not marked on the record... i always played it at the wrong speed for years...

There are also records where 33 is written but has to be 45 or vice versa :boogie:

Indeed, considering this is 1992, and even comparing it with the Resistance D inspiration. The faster beat may work well for later years & ears, but the remaining rhythmic elements would be quite too clattered and generally killing off the atmosphere.

But for those who want it official, it's featured on the Belgium edition of FFM Trax 4 (CD), according to which it's definitely a 33 ⅓ piece. I just recently happened to change it on Discogs.

I was quite surprised when I first listened to Gangstar Toons Industry 2 on its CD re-release, indicating it was played "too fast" by me for a decade, despite what's written on the vinyl... what a crap record it actually was intended to be.
