Who still buys vinyl?
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:30:03 AM »
I'm  just wandering who here still buys vinyl?

i still buy old records and only spin vinyl. the warehouse party scene is still quite strong here in the UK so plenty of chance to play on turntables but a lot of clubs now favour CDJs and laptop set ups

For me the sound from CDs or digital on a large sound system is horrible.  It seems like DJs have been convinced by the media that vinyl is a dead format so everyone is converting to digital, but I think we might see a revival

what are people's thoughts on this issue?

I still buy old records. Records that can't be purchased in digital form. New music I mostly play from CD or usb-stick on my CDJs. In these days I think it's the best to combine all the formats if you want to play the music you like. Just sticking to one format will simply not allow you to play all the tunes that are available. Except spending a lot of money by pressing dubplates.  :D
Therefor my set-up consists of 2 x Technics 1200 and 2 x CDJ-850. At home I like to play around with my vinyl cause it's much more fun.  :) But at partys I play CD or from USB most of the time. There isn't something like a warehouse-scene here and most of the clubs around haven't even got turntables in these days.

i rarely buy vinyl anymore. but i agree that vinyl has much better sound quality than CD or digital.
i listen/release digital too though, because it is somewhat a standard format these days.
but still... nothing beats the analog sound of vinyl :)

Still buy vinyl too, just not that much anymore though. Not looking for that many records anymore and there's not that much interesting new stuff coming out

i went to an acid house party on friday, quite a big event for around 1,000 people.  they had a huge d&B audiotechnik sound system which sounded really good when the DJs were playing vinyl but when one DJ started playing CDs it sounded almost unbearable.  really distorted, loads of top end, no depth or 'warmth' to the sound

That's what I always miss "life" in the music
but normally it should be crystal clear...
