Pressing PCP records
« on: January 14, 2007, 03:57:50 PM »
Noticed that there are 3 different releases (well to be specific, 3 different labels) of the DE2007 record (4 if you count the Forbidden Planet release too). Was/is this standard? First you press the Musterplatte (sample vinyl) than the promo and finally the original?

"Musterplatte"

"Promo (?)"

"Original"

I also had all these
Now I only kept the original release + the Forbidden Planet one
I have seen a lot of different PCP promo's and whitelabels
I think it was kinda standard
Don't know if everybody's doing it...

That what i guess...first the Musterplatte, then Promo, then normal Release for sell.
Even if i have not heard often about "Musterplatten", cause i don't see the sense in it at all.
Is it just to check how the songs will sound on Vinyl? If so, there couldent be much around. Normaly 1 or 2 must be enough.
Because the job of promotion and checking for feedback should be done by the Promotioncopies.

Ok, i have to correct myself.
i was asking my recorddealer today about "Musterplatten". He said there is not realy a difference to Promotion Copies.
He said there was once a factory that worked with this stickers (musterplatte), but nothing special, what i ment was a testpressing.
This most of the time is pressed about 2 till 10 times for the artist and close labelmembers to check out how it will sound in a club, etc... so just those records are rare, even if i dont know how necessary it is nowadays, where it is the easiest thing to burn a cdr to proove the music...
