Title: Streaming audio
Post by: Sheep on June 13, 2007, 02:21:58 PM
Had the idea to create an option/player to play mixes. But only if you want it, because it needs webspace and traffic which I don't have enough right now.

It can be old mixes I have on my harddisk, or new mixes made by you. Or if you have other ideas...?

I think thats a good idea.
But if your short of webspace/bandwith couldnt the members contribute a small fee so you can get the extra space/bandwith from your provider.
I mean, I am also a moderator on another forum and there most of the members pay a little something each month so the Forum/website stays online.  ;)

And if you then dont want any leechers on the site give the members who do pay special permission so they then can only listen to the audio file.

Just an idea  8)

Hm, nice would be maybe to start once a week in the evening at a special fixed time (eg 21 till 23) a live stream and somebody is mixing... something like a pcp radio...

If you think it's nice, why don't you vote? ;) Also got a cam in yr room (you dirty boy >:D)

Maybe live streaming is something for the future, first want to check if there's a need for normal streaming stuff.

Or you can buy a cheap soundcard or using your onboard soundcard if you have one. :D If you don't want to spend any money you can also steal one from your sisters computer ;D
maybe live365.com or something like that is an option?
I remember that that was free many years ago. To bad it isn't anymore. But you are gettig there only 150MB diskspace.. so it's more suitable for live streaming instead of on-demand playing.

We have about 25 members with more that 15 posts and lot's of read-only members. Before I make investments, I want to check if there is a need for something like this. Will close the poll after 20 votes, so tell your friends to vote 8)
Have some other ideas as well, but that will follow later. (And no, still no answer for Marc about caps :shakefist:)

, so tell your friends to vote 8)
Have some other ideas as well, but that will follow later.

i dont have friends, but i can open some fake accounts if that helps... ;)
However, maybe its an Idea to ask in other Communities, i mean is it worth to make a "show" for 8 people? On the other hand, the people that are here should be the one that are interessted in pcp stuff... .or are there more out , that does just never heard of this side? I cant imagine that there are too much , this side is linked at important sides, so... Maybe you should also ask, if its a show to win "new" members. If the programm is announcent in other foren, maybe more people get introduced into planet core and discover that pcp was more then "döp döp döp dedeldöpdöp"
Oh, news about the caps?  :P

Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: Sander on June 20, 2007, 12:49:39 PM
There are 2 options for streamin audio.

1. Online player with tracklist, so you can choose what kind of mix you want to here. Something like myspace. Of course live streaming is not possible here
2. Shoutcast streaming. The idea is to have a 24/7 on-demand stream. So a server is playing a tracklist with music (mixes etc.) With one push on the button you can change this to a livestream so you can host a show.
Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: nekro on June 20, 2007, 02:46:59 PM
i think a big library of sets would be better for me, i rarely have time to sit and listen to music whilst on the net
Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: G-Zox on June 20, 2007, 05:31:29 PM
With one push on the button you can change this to a livestream so you can host a show.

I also looked into this option myself, I mean starting a own server with Shoutcast, which then randomly plays my MP3 files online.
I had some website which gave me some directions, but I could not figure out how it worked.

I have a server at my house which is almost on 24/7. I could store my MP3 collection on there and run the Shoutcast server.

Anybody knows more about installing and broadcasting a Shoutcast server?
If more people would do this then you would have more options of listening.
Examples:
My server would play MP3 files, non-mixed
Nekro would play mixes
etc
etc

Then people would have more variety in there "stations" :)

some usefull words
I think that would be to much effort from you for a small result. You also need a nice upload speed too. With a streaming package from a streaming host you can have dozens of listeners with no problems. (If sheep is doing a live show it would be very busy I think) And most important, nobody have to look after it. :boogie:

No, I'm sorry :(
But we are planning to clean up the server so only the (good) PCP only mixes will be played. It's nice to have some variation of material, so every input is welcome. If I have time I will clean up my decks and create some mixes with a lot of "not played much but excellent" PCP tracks.

Stream is on his summer break. 8) But I am thinking of to change the stream server to play the whole PCP collection. So single songs (maybe fading out/in if it's not allowed) Could be very handy for many people who doesn't know all the songs, or just for the unknown people so they can listen where PCP stands for and wake them up. Maybe an idea?

ps. Maybe the mixes will then be available for download or as a flash mp3 stream (if the authors have no problem with that)
Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: PLACID on August 14, 2007, 12:40:07 AM
Great Idea! But with tracklist would be cool...a banner where you can read what is actually playing! But i think that will be to much work?!
Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: Sander on August 14, 2007, 12:21:12 PM
Every title of the track that is currently playing will also be streamed to your audioplayer. And also to the script on the frontpage. Soon I have 30 GB available, I think that will be enough for all the tracks :D

Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: Sander on August 14, 2007, 12:43:47 PM
It will be streamed, not available for download. But like I said, maybe fading* in/out the songs to avoid stealing. Will that also be a problem maybe a short shout playing in the song every 2 minutes, but that will be annoying :D

* I mean a crossover fading so you hear 2 songs together for a short time. Just like a mix.
Title: Re: Streaming audio
Post by: Sheep on August 14, 2007, 02:28:09 PM
Streamed media can easily be recorded with an mp3-recorder. I'll ask Marc permission :)
Title: Re: Streaming audio

Other labels are not complete yet. But I will add the stuff that is now available in the next couple of days.

I have no problems with it, but I'm changing from stream server soon. Currently the server is broadcasting from the USA. The new one will be from Great Britain (I think :)) Don't know if we keep the 2017 port but there are worser things.

Updated list, check first message of this topic. Thanks everybody!

All tracks are crossfaded to each other so you never get the full track. Btw the crossfadings are often surprising me how good they are :)

[edit]

Stream is restarted with new playlist.
